Performing your Reserve Annual Tour is a requirement for all Air Force and military reservists. It is a two-week continuous duty where reservists are put on active status. It must be completed every year within your Retirement/Retention (R/R) year in order to meet the minimum requirements to remain in the program. If you do not complete your annual tour, and have not requested a waiver, then you are at risk of getting kicked out of the military reserves.
Purpose of The Annual Tour
The Annual Tour is intended to support active component missions and combatant CC requirements. It is an opportunity for reservists to train along side their active duty counterparts.
How to Schedule Your Annual Tour
Your Annual Tour must be scheduled at least 15 days prior to the start of your tour. You must be on orders in order to perform your tour, and the orders must be published no later than 30 June of that year.
To schedule your Annual Tour log into AROWS-R and click on the “Please Select A Menu” drop down, and select “Member.”
Next, click on “Create Application” and you will begin your application to create a request for your Annual Tour.
Completing your application on AROWS-R should only take 15 minutes or less. It might be more complicated if you must travel to your unit, however that just requires adding in flight, rental car, and per diem information.
When you are done hit submit and “route forward.” At that point your application will be routed to your detachment who will review your application for:
- Check your readiness status
- Check that the home address on your orders matches the home address you have on file at the MPF
Once the review is complete they will send to your supervisor and ultimately the program manager for approval. This process usually takes 1-2 weeks depending on how far in advance you submit your application and how backed up they are in the order processing department at your detachment.
