Normally most national guard and reservists will serve their two week Annual Tour in a single tour of duty. Usually the duty starts on a Monday of the first week and will end on the Friday of the following week. If you do not live in the local area (more than 200 miles away) the Air Force Reserve Integration Office (RIO) will pay for you to travel to/from your duty station and pay for your lodging. In addition, you will receive per diem to cover food costs. Occasionally, a rental car will be authorized if it is considered advantageous to the government, but you must justify it with a rental car justification letter.
What many reservists are not aware of is the fact that you can split your annual tour into two or more segments if you unit approves doing so to support mission requirements. To split your annual tour you must complete this Split Annual Tour Request Form, which must be signed by your unit supervisor and then approved by the reserve program manager. Once your request to split your annual tour is approved, you can then submit your request for orders in AROWS. It’s as simple as that!
